When setting up and altar it is very important to choose what crystals and quartz work the best for the specific purpose of that altar.
Always is good to have rose quartz to generate love and compassion, green quartz for healing purposes, clear quartz to invite our angels, protectors and spiritual guides, amethyst to support life changes that we are going through. Is good to add a good protection and repelling negative energies crystal, stone or quartz. For this, you can use black tourmaline, hematite, tiger’s eye or Mexican obsidian in the form of arrowheads or in the form of “espejo de obsidiana” (obsidian mirror). Make sure that the arrowheads are pointing outwards to dispel unwanted energies.
In Curanderismo practices we also place rose quartz arrowheads pointing outwards to spread love, compassion and the blessings generated during our ceremonies to everyone and everything because that is one of the most important practices that we have (sharing blessings).
At the center of the altar we place a candle or something that we consider important. Around the center we place 3 rows of different crystals or quartz. We call them altar necklaces. These are strings of crystals, when we don’t have any altar necklace we can use individual pieces of crystals and quartz. The most common altar necklaces that we use are:
- Blue sodalite for communication with our ancestors and spirit protectors
- Pehnite and epidote (green) to empower the altar
- Rose quartz to generate and spread love and compassion
